CoreGym™ Chair Pilates for the Geriatric Patient
Course # 207
Ginger Schirmer

Pilates has become synonymous with the term core stability. Pilates works the muscles from the inside out to strengthen the muscles of the core. Core training improves muscle balance, gait, balance, proprioception and body biomechanics, all of which are important to maintain as we get older. Yoga is a group of ancient spiritual practices originating in India. Yoga is mostly associated with the practice of asanas (postures) which are incorporated into a flow that is designed to increase strength, flexibility, stamina, as well as be calming and nourishing to the body. Many seniors do not have the flexibility or strength to do many of the traditional postures without modifications. This class teaches how to incorporate Pilates and Yoga into a chair workout that meets the needs of the senior population.
