CoreGym™ Chair Pilates for the Geriatric Patient
Course # 207
Ginger Schirmer
Workshop MB
Pilates has become synonymous with the term core stability. Pilates
works the muscles from the inside out to strengthen the muscles of
the core. Core training improves muscle balance, gait, balance,
proprioception and body biomechanics, all of which are important to
maintain as we get older. Yoga is a group of ancient spiritual
practices originating in India. Yoga is mostly associated with the
practice of asanas (postures) which are incorporated into a flow
that is designed to increase strength, flexibility, stamina, as well
as be calming and nourishing to the body. Many seniors do not have
the flexibility or strength to do many of the traditional postures
without modifications. This class teaches how to incorporate Pilates
and Yoga into a chair workout that meets the needs of the senior
population.

Functional Mat Training For Today’s Society & Student 2008
Course # 210
Leslee Bender
Workshop MB
Most of traditional mat exercises are of flexion. We live over
computers, driving our cars and working, all of which did not exist
in the early days. We also spin, step, body pump and more. Muscular
balance is the key to success and function. How effective are
roll-up, roll-overs and more, especially when most students are
either kyphotic or lordotic and cannot perform these exercises
correctly without over utilizing the psosas which causes more
muscular imbalances that lead to low back pain. Learn alternative
exercises with the mini ball and GLIDING that will change the way
they move forever. This is a progressive class that gives outside
the box non-traditional exercises with the focus of Pilates
principles of concentration, control and precision of every move.
